I lived in Key West from 1976-1979. The summer of 1979 I lived in a house with friends who leased the house from a good friend of Van Eno. They had many of his paintings but they kept them under lock and key. Lo and behold, Hurricane David arrived that summer and we decided to sink or swim. We decorated the house with all of the Van Eno's for the day, so I certainly got to see a wide variety of his work and absolutely loved it. Sadly, we left Key West that summer and moved north. We went back to visit one year. Maybe 1983...not quite sure...and we were lucky enough to purchase two of his paintings at an art sale at the Pier House with our brand new credit card. They are pictures of a female jester and a male jester. I will photograph them and put them on my computer and e-mail them to you. I love them, they always make me smile.
My partner, Jack Baron, himself an artist, knew Van well and thought him to be the only Key West artist whose works will survive time. Jack and Van were good friends, in fact, Jack was given Van's bapitismal bowl after his death. I don't remember who gave it to him, it might have been Joe Pais. We also have Van's self-port., and how Jack got that, I don't remember...but it's on the dining room wall.
Jack passed away January 2, 2005 at age 78.

I just loved your stories of this artist and the photos of his paintings. I have a painting by Van Eno
titled MUSIC, I will be posting a photo soon for everyone to see. I always thought it was by a artist named Vanen guess not, the o looked like a punctuation mark and there was no space between the n&e. But when I found your web site i know i had found the artist of my painting.

From the mid 70"s to 1984 I owned a weekend house in Key West on Love Lane. I had seen some of Van's work in a shop in Ft. Lauderdale ( I remember that the first piece I saw was titled Unicorn Flamingo). In Key West I began to buy his works from my friend Richard Heyman. I bought at both of his galleries. I have 8 paintings and a number of pincle drawings.
Prior to Fantisy Fest one year, Richard was doing a window in the second gallery with works by Van. Van had done a large water color female figure in an orential robe. It was just for the window to attract attention but I fell in love with it and asked to buy it. Richard talked to Van who said that it was not worth selling and would not last because it was done on brown butcher paper. He did not wish to sell it. I begged and Van said that he would sell it to me for $150 because I was a good friend and customer of Richard's. I had the painting framed by the Kennedy gallery and it hangs at the end of my hall to this day. I am glad to find this web site as I have not been able to find much on the Web about the work of Van.

David, Jennifer - I'm really glad that you found our site. Your uncle was extremely talented and very well liked by those who knew him.
